PennAhead is an independent, free informational service for commuters at New York Penn Station. By using it, you agree to these terms.

PennAhead is not affiliated with, authorized by, sponsored by, or operated by the New Jersey Transit Corporation (NJ TRANSIT®), the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak®), the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), or the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey.

Track estimates can be wrong

Tracks marked with an asterisk (*) are estimates, not official assignments. When a train's equipment is already on a platform, PennAhead estimates that track; otherwise it uses past track assignments for the train and line and rules out tracks that are posted for, occupied by, or more likely for other trains. The percentage shown is the estimated chance that the track is correct. For estimates based on equipment position, it is how often such estimates have matched the announced track so far.

NJ TRANSIT can assign or change a track at any time. Always confirm your track on the official displays in the station and listen for announcements before boarding. Do not run or push through crowds based on an estimate.

Station directions

Directions to platforms are general guidance about the station layout. Access can change because of construction, crowd control, or closures. Follow station signage and staff instructions.

No warranty; limitation of liability

PennAhead is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including about the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of estimates or third-party data. To the fullest extent permitted by law, PennAhead is not liable for missed trains, track changes, delays, or any direct, indirect, incidental, or consequential damages or inconvenience arising from use of the service.

Data sources and attribution

• Departures, posted tracks, train positions, and station advisories are obtained from NJ TRANSIT's RailData API and served from PennAhead's own server. PennAhead is not licensed by NJ TRANSIT, and this information may not be real time, accurate, or complete.
• Historical track data: njtracks/penn-station-departures by njtracks, used under the Open Database License (ODbL) v1.0. PennAhead's derived track statistics are available under the ODbL: download pennahead-track-statistics.json.
• PennAhead's own log of the tracks NJ TRANSIT posted, used to keep recent patterns current.

Open source

PennAhead's source code is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0. If you run a modified version as a service, the license requires you to offer its source code to your users.
